Seals and sea lions on Shell Island.
Sunflower Tube Feet
If we are lucky enough to find a sunflower star, not on a rock, we will be able to see and undersstand the the tube feet.
    The Tides

SEA can lead you on a walk among the rocks on Bandon's beach to observe the plants and animals that spend most of their lives under the water.

The days and times selected for visiting the intertidal should be heavily influenced by the tides.  As you may know, the tides are controlled by the positions of the moon and the sun.  The reason this is so important is that on "good tide" days, plants and animals are visible that can be seen only a few days per year.  They are covered with water at  mostof the times when there is enough light [or open eyes] to see them.

Here is a list of the  April, May and June,
2008 days  that SEA believes are best for intertidal adventures:

April 8-10
May 7-10
Jun  13-16
June 20-22
July 4-6 and 20-32
Aug 2-3

The actual forecasts are in posted on the Hatfield Marine Science Center's web site:

April 08 Tide Forecast
May 08 Tide Forecast
June 08 Tide Forecast
July 08 Tide Forecast
Aug 08 Tide Forecast
Sept 08 Tide Forecast

These forecasts are for the Hatfield Marine Sciences Center Dock on Yaquina Bay in Newport Oregon.  Offsets for other places are listed in this:
